Flashback Fridays are always a good idea, until they are not.
Greg Olsen found this out the hard way this week when a post circulated on Twitter in honor of Flashback Friday.
The video was from the Carolina Panthers come from behind win over the Seattle Seahawks in 2015 when Olsen caught the game-winning touchdown from Panthers quarterback Cam Newton with 32 seconds left in the contest.
In the clip, Newton runs into the endzone, celebrates with his main man Olsen, and then proceeds to taunt Seahawks fans in CenturyLink Field. The Panthers improved to 5-0 with the 27-23 victory and Seattle was stunned.
So you might be asking yourself, so what? Well, Olsen is now a member of the Seahawks.
Panthers and Seahawks fans shared their reactions to the clip in the comments section. But one response was unlike the others. It was Olsen’s.
Well, this isn’t awkward at all.
The good news for 12s is that Olsen is officially now a member of the Seahawks. The three-time Pro Bowler could be a big time weapon for Russell Wilson this season. And it’s worth noting, Seattle is not scheduled to play Carolina during the 2020 regular season.
The bad news is Seattle will likely have to face Cam Newton in Week 2. The former NFL MVP signed a one-year deal to join the New England Patriots with Tom Brady no longer in the mix.
While Wilson and the Seahawks have dominated most of their meetings with Newton, winning five out of six regular season contests vs. Carolina, Newton did get a playoff victory in 2015, when he eventually led Carolina to the Super Bowl.
